Winchester
Winchester Cathedral, one of England's foremost pilgrimage shrines, stands in a tranquil close in the centre of the city. The Round Table of Arthurian Legend is kept here. Atop nearby St Catherine's Hill, a point of telluric power, the turf labyrinth known as the mizmaze is approached by a ceremonial way lined with ancient trees. Labyrinths of this type are sometimes also referred to as " Shepherd's Race ", " Troy Town " and " Road to Jerusalem ". The Miz-Maze is thought to have been constructed in the 17th Century. It's form is unusual, being square with rounded corners. Unusually, the path is a narrow groove in the turf - similar to that of the labyrinth at Saffron Walden in Essex. More often it is the turf itself which forms a raised path, with channels cut between the paths, as at the circular turf labyrinth at Breamore in Hampshire which is also known as a mizmaze. The Belinus line - the longest ley alignment in Britain - is said to pass through St Catherine's Hill, en route towards Inverhope in Scotland, via the Rollright stones circle in Oxfordshire, and Long Meg in Cumbria. Two earth energy currents which coil around the hill have been located. One of these "dragon" lines is female / yin, the other is masculine / yang, very similar to the Michael and Mary currents of the St Michael alignment described by Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst in The Sun and the Serpent. There was once an Iron Age hillfort on the hill and a 12th Century a chapel dedicated to St.Catherine. See also St. Catherine's Hill, Dorset
