Quézac
At Quézac, approx 5 km north of Maurs in the Cantal, Auvergne, France, Notre Dame de Quézac is renowned for healing the lame. The pilgrimage is depicted in the fresco paintings which adorn the church porch. A series of frescoes in the nave depict the principal black madonnas of the region. The discarded crutches and misshapen shoes of cured cripples hanging as votive offerings beside the statue of the madonna testify to the efficacy of her miracles. At Mauriac, approx 100km north, Notre Dame des Miracles, the black madonna at Mauriac is equally renowned. Conques, approx 25 km WSW (as the crow flies) is a major stage on the Chemin St Jacques / Way of St James pilgrim route to the shrine of St James at Santiago de Compostella in northern Spain.
