Visible from many miles around, the spent volcano of the Puy de Dôme in the Auvergne is considered by many to be the greatest point of telluric power in France.

This 1000 m volcano is thought to have last erupted around 10,000 BC.

At the summit are the remains of the ancient temple of Mercury - le temple de Mercure, built in the 1st or 2nd century AD on the site of a former pagan temple.
