At Murat in the Cantal, Auvergne, France, the huge statue of the madonna smiles down from her rocky outcrop
above the medieval town with it's ancient church and black madonna / vierge noire. The original statue was stolen in 1983 and is presently replaced by a recent replica.
Further west is the black madonna at Mauriac.
