The St Michael Ley Alignment
St Michael the archangel of Light, leads the heavenly hosts - reigning over high places, with many hilltop shrines dedicated to him. The celebrated St Michael ley follows the Beltain / May day sunrise alignment from the far south western tip of England to the east coast, visiting many megalithic sites as well as chapels and hills dedicated to St Michael - the saint of high places - with it's companion "Mary" ley visiting related water sites and holy wells en route. Such "dragon" - or "earth" energies were known to ancient Chinese feng shui geomancers as 'lung mei'... Dragon's breath. "Killing the dragon is a feat attributed to many gods, saints and heroes, and it occurs as a symbol in the language of alchemy, from which the christian symbol of St Michael and the dragon was developed. In such a context it signifies the purification of theearth spirit, and the removal of its serpent venom by means of a pole or pillar planted in the ground and serving as an instrument of cosmic and terrestrial forces." The alignment passes through Boscawen-un stone circle, Menacuddle holy well, Brentor, Roche Rock, Spinsters Rock dolmen, Burrowbridge Mump, Glastonbury Tor with it's labyrinth and Avebury and Silbury, and encloses Wayland's Smithy.
