The 12th century church of St Christophe at Montferrand du Périgord is situated 11km E of Beaumont in the Dordogne region of SW France.

The luminous fresco paintings depict the symbols of Moon and Sun represented as human faces surrounded by stars. Also depicted are Christ enthroned, surrounded by the traditional symbols of the four evangelists:
the winged man for St Matthew, the lion for St Mark, the bull for St Luke and the eagle for St John.

The abbey of St Avit Senieur - a major staging point on the Chemin St Jacques / Way of St James, the medieval pilgrim way from Vezélay to Santiago de Compostella in northern Spain - is nearby.

St Christopher is the patron saint of travellers.
