Cherhill White Horse
The figure was cut in 1780 under the directions of Dr Alsop of Calne, just below the ancient Oldbury Castle earthwork. originally the eye was filled with upturned bottles to make it glint in the sun. Many more hill figures are to be found in the surrounding area, including the Alton Barnes White Horse. The Cherhill White Horse can be seen from the A4 road between Avebury and Calne in Wiltshire England.
