Thought to have been constructed around 3000 bc, the Grand Dolmen de Bagneau is the largest dolmen in France, measuring 90 sq m. The overall length is 23m+.

Built of 15 stone slabs thought to weigh around 500 tonnes in total. Eight slabs form the two long walls, which with the one end slab form a rectangle. The roof is formed by three immense slabs plus one smaller slab.

Situated on the outskirts of Saumur in the valley of the Loire, the dolmen is in the grounds of a private house and a small charge is made for admission.
