At Beynac, one of the most beautiful of french villages, the well is set into a well close beside the river Dordogne.
Beynac's imposing fortress is built on a limestone cliff where medieval limestone cottages and cobbled alleys cling precariously.

The mighty river Dordogne rises as a tiny stream on le Mont Dore in the Auvergne region of central France. Passing through many varying kinds of landscape and countless gorges it soon becomes a major waterway which once served as a vital means of transport and communication for central western France.
