Scallop Shell




Signs are all around us, and at times of pilgrimage they can be especially potent and meaningful for us on a personal level.

The scallop shell, the cocquille St Jacques, is not only the symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago de compostela in northern Spain, but also a female symbol of wellbeing. Indeed the scallop shell is used as a cleansing device in certain esoteric traditions. For pilgrims walking to Santiago de Compostela in norther Spain it was also once used as a drinking bowl and a star compass and timepiece.

Adrian Calabrese, in Sacred Signs encourages us to "Hear, See and Believe" the messages which we receive from the Universe.
