Bells & Flags

In his superbly inspiring book The Art of Pilgrimage Phil Cousineau reminds us of the potential for experiencing the sacred on our travels. For if we are conscious of atmosphere we may make every journey soulful - no matter what our destination.

Bells and flags are used in most cultures to indicate the flow of spirit in our atmosphere. The chime of bells is said to cleanse the atmosphere and to bring a change of consciousness. Great Spirit is believed to appreciate bright and lively elements such as flags and "clouties" which are left as votive offerings at holy wells.
